‘Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor—it’s anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.’ –Peter Walsh.
Do you feel Shame hiring a Professional Organiser? If so, you are not alone. Many of our clients feel this way. After all we’ve been told, ‘Go clean your bedroom’ by our mothers since we were less than 1 metre tall. So, it’s no wonder that we feel bad about not keeping our houses clean and seeking professional help.
Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Co. don’t help either. Everyone on there, young and old, presents the perfect house, bedroom, or appearance. The word Instagrammable is now part of the Cambridge Dictionary:
Attractive or interesting enough to be suitable for photographing and posting on the social media service Instagram:
Of course, we know that Social Media often isn’t real life. We all have a ‘social media persona’ that we want to convey, presenting a certain image of who we are: the fashionista, the health enthusiast, the bookworm, the athlete, and so on. We don’t tend to show our weaknesses and insecurities.
To use me as an example, I have an Instagram account for my company, Life Organised, where I share decluttering and organising tips. You can view endless pictures of my bedroom, here and here and elsewhere. I present tidy iterations of my bedroom, complete with perfectly made beds. But guess what, I am a human being, and there are days when I don’t make my bed or throw dirty clothing on the floor.
Above, we have established that you are in good company and that the internet paints a ‘rose-tinted picture.’
Below, I have some good news to share with you: there is no need to feel ashamed when hiring a Professional Organiser.
But Why?
Simply put, nobody is perfect. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. You are no exception.
This morning, as I type this article, I am waiting for the arrival of a window cleaner. Could I, or perhaps should I, be able to do it myself? Is it an unnecessary luxury? Why am I hiring a professional?
To answer the above questions, yes, sure, I could clean my own windows and have been doing so for years. But while it takes me 20 minutes to clean one window and more swearing than I do for the rest of the month, it takes the professional 20 minutes to do all eight windows in my flat. I have yet to hear him swear!
Whether it is an unnecessary luxury is to be debated. Yes, it is something that a single mother with three kids working a minimum wage job or an older person on the state pension couldn’t afford, but that doesn’t make it luxurious. We live in an unfair world.
Why am I hiring a window cleaner? In one sentence, to make my life easier and free up time for me to do things I enjoy and am good at doing. Most people hire professional help not because they couldn’t do it themselves or learn how to do it. They employ a window cleaner or plumber to make their lives easier and solve a problem they have.
Hiring a professional organiser is no different. You are getting professional help with something that you are struggling with or keep putting off. There is no shame in hiring one of us. We can’t all be good at everything.
So why wait any longer? If you believe you could benefit from my services or those of one of my colleagues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Whether you just need a kick in where you sit on to get started or are seriously struggling, I am here for you.
