Spring Clearing Week – Intro

What is Spring Clearing Week?

Every year APDO, the Association of Professional Declutterers and Organisers, runs two campaigns, one in the autumn called National Organising Week (NOW) and the other in the Spring, unimaginatively called Spring Clearing Week.

Spring Clearing Week first started in 2018. This year it is happening from the 21st to the 27th of March 2022. Its focus is on the decluttering work undertaken by professional organisers who are in the UK. It allows organisers like me to highlight the difference between a spring clear and a spring clean.

What is this year’s theme?

The emphasis of this year’s Spring Clearing week will be on doing something constructive with unwanted and discarded items. Too often, people either won’t part with their belongings, even if they are superfluous to requirements, because they fear waste. But decluttering needn’t mean waste. Why not donate clothing to a refuge charity or give scrap materials to art teachers to turn into artwork with their students? Most things can be donated if still in good shape or recycled if not.

What I plan to do during Spring Clearing week.

APDO and individual members have some great events planned for their clients. Check out the APDO website to see what my colleagues are up to.

Personally, I will, for this year’s Spring Clearing week, guide you through decluttering and cleaning different areas of your house. Further, I will suggest what to do with discarded stuff to give them a new life, so you don’t feel guilty parting with them.

Tomorrow I’ll start by talking you through bathroom decluttering. Over the following days, I will explain ways of decluttering the kitchen, bedroom and lounge.
